About the Jundokan TOKGBGosport Dojo

As far as possible we train in the same way as people train in the Jundokan in Okinawa; because this is a martial art, the emphasis must be on practical technique that can be used if necessary to protect your life and so requires a different kind of training from that required by competitive (sport) karate. Hence we don't practice "competition" techniques or actively participate in tournaments although it is acceptable for members to do so if they wish. Goju-Ryu is an art with a lot of depth and is a very absorbing study. It is well known for the kata "Sanchin" which emphasises the correct method of breathing to promote a healthy resilient body and develop extremely powerful technique. This style can be practiced throughout life; many of the Okinawan masters who are in their sixties and seventies train every day. As Miyazato Sensei said: "When you are twenty train as a twenty year old; when you are fifty train as a fifty year old."
